Sustainability refers to the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It involves balancing economic, social, and environmental considerations to ensure that resources are used in a way that is sustainable over the long term.
Carbon accounting, on the other hand, is a method of measuring and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, primarily carbon dioxide (CO2), associated with human activities. It involves quantifying emissions from various sources, such as transportation, energy production, and industrial processes, and tracking their impacts on the environment.
Carbon accounting is an essential component of sustainability because GHG emissions are a major contributor to climate change, which poses significant threats to the environment, economy, and human health. By measuring and reporting emissions, organizations can identify areas where they can reduce their carbon footprint and take actions to mitigate their impact on the environment.
The course introduces participants to the basics of sustainability and reporting standards, its importance, the key reporting frameworks, and how to get started with reporting. It also allows them to have a hands-on practice on carbon management solution developed by PlanetWise for carbon accounting in Supply Chain and reporting
